DAY THREE - PART 2

During the second half of the class, we worked in groups to create a SOCIAL STORY.  I had never created a social story before so it was interesting to learn about this process... AND how technology can support the creation of  of such stories.

We used the Book Creator APP to create our book.  This was a wonderful APP as it was very easy to use, intuitive, and had a lot of useful features such as the ability to record audio, customizable font/text, and the ability to send to email, publish, or send to ibooks.

The most difficult part was coming up with a suitable topic. None of my group members had created a social story before so we were a bit unsure as to what to include, but using the APP was a convenient way to create our product.

I can definitely see the benefits to using this APP as opposed to creating the stories by hand. They are quick, customizable (ex. can use pictures of the student, the student's environment, etc.), can be edited, and are portable/easily accessible.

We also had the opportunity to use Airplay during this class. WOW!! What an amazing resource!! With Airply, individual iPads can take over the presentation just with a few taps of the screen.  The possibilities within the classroom are incredible!  Students, or groups of students, would be able to immediately share their findings, question, creations, etc.  It is exciting to think about the education system of the future.  With proper resource alloctions, there is so much we could accomplish within our classrooms.  The set-up of Aiplay is relatively minimal and very cost efficient.

Below is a youtube video of how one teacher is able to incorporate iPads in the classroom to enhance learning for all!!
