DAY THREE - PART 1

During the first half of this class, we broke off into groups to watch different Assistive Technology Webinars that Barb had previously given.  There were SIX in total.  Each group was to report back on TWO or THREE exciting/interesting APPS discussed in that webinar.  Below is the notes taken during our group discussion:

WEBINAR #1: Physical Access to Mobile Devices

  • This webinar discussed alternate access to iPads for students/people with physical disabilities
  • Different ways to access iPad:
    • Cases – around legs, around neck, arm, belt
    • Mounting systems – in bed, wheelchair
    • Stylus
    • Joystick accessories
  • Settings – accessibility options

  • EXCITING/INTERESTING APPS!!
    • WritePad     
      • Write with finger or stylus – recognizes and types it
      • Can program things into it – some of these are included with the app and you can write your own (ex. “date” = writes the date)
      • Can send via email
      • Tool wheel = customizable
      • Can write math as well

    • DragonDictation  
      • Voice recognition
      • Speech to text
      • Edit feature and word recognition
      • Have to articulate well
      • 3-5 times faster than typing

  • APPS to see: Grasshopper Apps, MathTappers
  • Many apps are FREE!
